Monster Bookmark

What is it about monsters that intrigues children? That's one thing that I just can't figure it out.  There are books and movies about these "charming" creatures, but what exactly is the fascination that children hold toward them?

When I saw these monster bookmarks on http://www.ctbakerintheacres.com/2012/02/14-lovely-days-day-2.html, they looked adorable, but I questioned the functionality of them.  Since the bookmarks are on the edge of the page instead of being hidden inside of the book, I figured that they would fall off quite a few times.  Anyway, you can't beat that they are cute and not at all scary. I myself am an avid reader, and have a collection of bookmarks that I would love to know how to organize Martha Stewart style, but that's an aside.  These bookmarks can be customized for almost any kind to theme. Hope you enjoy them:)

Supplies:
1. colored paper (ours was construction paper, harder to fold)
2. scissors
3. googly eyes
4. markers
5. glue sticks

Directions:
1. cut paper into a square, sizing according to your book (5 x 5, 6 x 6, etc.)
2. fold paper into a triangle
3. take right corner and fold  to the center
4. take left corner and fold to the center (making a square)
5. open triangle and fold top flap point to bottom
6. take right corner and fold again toward center, but this time, fold the loose end inside
7. repeat for the left side

Note:
As an option, you can insert a contrasting square within the square and then cut out teeth and glue them onto the square you just made.  You have a pretty good pictorial guide on http://www.ctbakerintheacres.com/2012/02/14-lovely-days-day-2.html

Duration:
This project should take less than 30 minutes.
